On Wednesday 11th of March, from 10am to 12am, IFRA-Nigeria hosted a methodological training at IFRA-Nigeria’s library themed on “Conducting qualitative interviews” . The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Gernot Klantschnig and Dr. Ini-Dele Adedeji

On 20 February 2020, IFRA’s team hosted two workshops at the Faculty of Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University (Ile-Ife). The workshops were formally introduced by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor O.M.A. Daramola.

For the first workshop of 2020, IFRA-Nigeria offered to follow a small group of research fellows in the design of a strong PhD research proposal. This was a competitive call, which targeted postgraduate students in social sciences a/o humanities who were already in the process of applying for a PhD tenure. The workshop was led by Dr. Cyrielle Maingraud-Martinaud, the deputy director of IFRA-Nigeria and a doctor in Political Sciences from Sciences Po Bordeaux (France).

On 26 September 2019, Dr. Cyrielle Maingraud-Martinaud hosted a 2-hour workshop at IFRA-Nigeria themed on "How to answer a call for paper? Choosing a title and writing an abstract". The workshop focused on how best to understand, analyse and respond to a call for paper for an academic conference.
2019 first edition of the Annual Arcis NLP summer school
Taking advantage of the presence of the NaijaSynCor specialists of Natural Language Processing (NLP) who attended the June 2019 Naija Symposium in Ibadan, the Africa Regional Centre for Information Science (ARCIS), University of Ibadan, Nigeria, organised with IFRA the first edition of its Annual ARCIS NLP Summer School, on 1-3 July, 2019.

On Thursday 11 of July 2019, IFRA-Nigeria hosted a methodological workshop at Obafemi Awolowo University entitled “Making the most of newspapers as sources: critical reflections and research methodologies”. The workshop was animated by Dr Katharina Oke (Kings College London, UK) and held at The Faculty of Art of Obafemi Awolowo University. The event was facilitated by Dr. Titus Olusegun (IFRA fellows and lecturer at the dep. of music, OAU).

On Wednesday 10th of July, IFRA-Nigeria hosted a methodological seminar at IFRA-Nigeria’s library, at the Institute of African Studies (University of Ibadan). The workshop was facilitated by Chrystel Oloukoï (PhD candidate, Harvard University, USA) and Julien Roland (PhD candidate, Kent State University, USA) and consisted of an introduction and short-training to the computer programme Mendeley.

On Friday 7th of June 2019, IFRA-Nigeria was welcome at the BIC Ijomah Centre, Department of Sociology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, by Prof. Egodi Uchendu and Dr. Chidi Ugwu from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
Dr. Emilie Guitard and Clementine Chazal hosted two methodological workshops on “How to apply for scholarships, postdocs and other academic positions in Europe”.

On June 3rd, Côme Salvaire hosted a 4 hours workshop (divided into two parts) at IFRA-Nigeria, entitled “Qualitative Methods: constructing your research object, choosing your cases”. This workshop aimed at students of sociology or political science looking to develop qualitative methods skills.

On Thursday 2 May 2019, Dr Elodie Apard (director of IFRA Nigeria), Sara Panata (PhD student at Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne) and Dr Vincent Hiribarren (King's College London) travelled to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, to host a methodological workshop entitled “Applying for a scholarship, a post-doc and an academic position in Europe”. The workshop was held at the Institute for Development Research and Training (IDR) and kindly organised by its director, Prof. Hudu. A. Ayuba.

On April 1st 2019, Dr. Gerardo Serra hosted a 4 hours workshop themed on "CENSUS STORIES: Quantification, trust and the politics of counting people". The workshop focused on population census as a source for political and cultural history in Sub-Saharan Africa.
IFRA-Nigeria together with four other French Institute of Research in Africa (IFRA-Nairobi, IFAS Johannesburg and CFEE Addis-Abeba) organized a masterclass themed “Combining sources in social sciences and humanities: fieldwork methods and practices”. This masterclass was hosted by IFRA Nairobi and was held in Nandi Hills, Kenya from July 16 to 23, 2018.

IFRA-Nigeria, together with ENS-Paris (Ecole Normale Supérieure) organized a ten-day long Masterclass themed on “Researching public spaces in African cities” which was held from February 19 to 28, that took place in the Universities of Lagos (UniLag) and Ibadan (UI) respectively.
From February 19th to 28th 2019, ENS Paris and IFRA-Nigeria are co-organising a week-long Masterclass between the University of Lagos and the University of Ibadan, exploring the concept of public spaces in African cities. A call is now open for 10 Nigerian students to participate.

IFRA was pleased to organise a research training seminar on the 25th of May in our library led by Mrs. Chrystel Oloukoi entitled “Nocturnal Fieldwork and ‘Assisted’ Field Research”. She is a PhD student in African and African-American Studies at Harvard University. A geographer by training, her work has notably addressed power relations in nocturnal contexts in Lagos and Johannesburg. She has conducted field research in Ikeja (Lagos State) and Maboneng (Johannesburg) during which the issue of research assistantship was particularly sensitive and critical.
The French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA) Nigeria (Ibadan), Sciences Po (Paris), Mambayya House, BUK (Kano) and Columbia University (New York) invite applications for 16 young researchers on our jointly taught research masterclass, to be held at Mambayya House, Kano, from July 2nd to July 7th, 2018.

On Thursday, 12th & Friday 13th of April, 2018, an IFRA delegation was the guest of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria. Until recently, the Institute for Development, Research and Training (IDR&T) of ABU was hosting one of the two headquarters of IFRA in Nigeria. Therefore, we have enjoyed a strong and longstanding relationship with this university and it is a pleasure to contribute to restore and strengthen our ties. IFRA, accompanied by the Higher Education Attaché of the French embassy Prof. Leila Matthieu, was welcomed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Ibrahim Garba, the Director of the IDR&T Professor Hudu. A. Ayuba and other distinguished personalities of the academic life in Zaria to discuss opportunities of collaborations.
